Sworn translations were established in Brazil by Law No. 14,195, of August 26, 2021<\/b><\/u><\/strong><\/a>, which grants public faith to this type of translation. It can only be performed by a Public Translator and Commercial Interpreter who has passed a public examination and is registered with the Board of Trade of the State in which he\/she is domiciled.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What is Sworn Translation?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Also known as Public Translation, a Sworn Translation is chosen whenever an official document needs to be translated, attesting to its legal validity. Examples of this type of document include diplomas, declarations, powers of attorney, or birth certificates, among others.<\/p>

This type of translation can only be performed by a duly qualified professional known as a sworn public translator \u2013 or Public Translator and Commercial Interpreter (TPIC). It is completely different from translating a book, an advertising piece, or any other piece of writing that does not require legal validity.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A Public or Sworn Translation is intended to validate documents in a foreign language in Brazil and vice-versa, making them official.<\/p>

This requirement has been imposed to avoid distortion or even adulteration of the original content of foreign documents. Therefore, sworn translations must be carried out on the letterhead of the Public Translator and Commercial Interpreter and have a standardized layout. For this reason, the translation layout will never be identical to that of the original document.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
